Las question tags dependen del tiempo verbal y del sujeto de la frase a la que se refieran. Si la frase está en afirmativa, la pregunta suele pasar a la forma negativa, y viceversa:

• He’ll be here next week, won’t he?
• He won't be here next week, will he?

Usamos el auxiliar de la pregunta, como puedes ver. Veamos ahora algunas peculiaridades:

1. En el siguiente ejemplo, la persona que habla pide confirmación sobre si ellos le mintieron, no sobre si él o ella lo piensa. Por eso el sujeto de la question tag es they, y no I:

• I think they lied to us, didn’t they?
  
  

2. Para convertir I’m not decimos: Aren’t I.

• I’m late, aren’t I?
  
  

3. Para this y that usamos it en las question tags; y para these y those, usamos they:

• That’s right, isn’t it?
• These are mine, aren’t they?

 

La práctica

A continuación verás ejemplos en distintos tiempos verbales y personas gramaticales. Empecemos con los sonidos: /dáasi/, /dídshhhi/ y /dóuntia/.

(Él) no tiene coartada, ¿verdad?	He doesn’t have an alibi, does he?
(Ella) no hirió tus sentimientos, ¿no?	She didn’t hurt your feelings, did she?
Crees que esta canción es sobre ti, ¿no?	You think this song is about you, don’t you?

Aquí aparecen los sonidos: /uíli/, /kántia/ y /hávvvntuíi/.

(Él) no nos traicionará, ¿no?	He won’t betray us, will he?
Puedes trabajar desde casa, ¿no?	You can work from home, can’t you?
Ya hemos pasado por esto, ¿no?	We’ve been through this before, haven’t we?

 

Practiquemos finalmente los sonidos: /ámai/, /áaantai/ y /ísntit/.

No te estoy molestando, ¿no?	I’m not in your way, am I?
Todavía soy bienvenido aquí, ¿no?	I’m still welcome here, aren’t I?

Extra

Clave de pronunciación

Lo que resulta más complicado pronunciar por falta de práctica son las preguntas con: Am I, /ámai/, y Aren’t I, /áaantai/ (no /arentái/).

Error común

Quítate el hábito de usar isn’t it? para cualquier frase. No digas: You’re John, isn’t it? En este caso sería: You’re John, aren’t you?
